THE ART OF TEACHING
We just experienced the Guru Moon, the full moon that honors our teachers.
I have been putting a lot of thought into what it means to be a teacher right now. With the studio and our teachers in transition, the anticipation of whether our children will return to the classroom next month and the shifts our country is experiencing I feel a desire to show up on a greater level. I ask myself, how and where will I show up and how can I be a better teacher?
The formal teachers I am drawn to share things that leave me with questions. I am attracted to concepts and philosophies that ignite the student within. These things we want to share as teachers and hope will move through us need time to simmer. The simmer is the practice and practice has many shapes and forms, not just asana. We are all students. We are all teachers.
In the words of one of my teachers, Sianna Sherman, "True practice does not bypass the real work - true practice builds inner strength to lean in and do the work - true practice liberates."
